A neighbour and good friend asked me if it was possible to install a third floor
skylight in a four story building??? Of course, no problem! This soon became an interesting yet complicated trompe l'oeil problem. Rather than the obvious blue hole, I went into the buildings stairwell, and began sketching the underside of the stairs. An added complication was that if finished work would be viewed from below, at about a 45 degree angle, which meant that the perspective would be orthoscopic (skewing the perspective to compensate for the viewer). Painted on canvas (to save my back) and hung on the ceiling, the effect is this Esher like opening. |
